Globe & Mail — Small B.C. town woos the luxury buyer

This is the original advertorial, paid-inclusion, puff-piece that started a firestorm.

When this was published on September 6, 2024 almost no one in Nelson had any idea that these plans were in the works.

The developers and their “local partners” had done an excellent job of keeping everything on the down-low until their big reveal in the Globe & Mail.

The headline itself is classic gas-lighting. Nelson is not wooing luxury buyers. But a couple of clowns from Vancouver are attempting to leverage Nelson’s “authenticity” to flog their $2M duplexes.

Highlight:

“Our specs for the homes are quite unique. The mattress is exactly the same spec as the Park Hyatt. The linens and towels are exactly the same spec as Fairmont Gold. … The glassware is Austrian crystal. The dinnerware is the porcelain from Villeroy & Boch. The Vitamix [blender] that comes with your unit is not the one you buy over the counter. It’s the commercial grade one.”
